Onsite/in-person volunteer opportunities

(temporarily suspended)

Currently, most in-person volunteer activities are suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. While we do not have a definitive schedule for when onsite activities will resume at this time, we are assessing the situation and we hope to have updates in the coming months.

Please keep an eye on our email updates, or visit the Updates section of this website, for the latest information.

We miss you and are eager to get back to normal, but the health and safety of volunteers and staff is our top priority. We are looking forward to when this is behind us and we can be together again.

Stay safe and be well!

Questions?

Please feel free to contact us at volunteer@opb.org if you have any questions/concerns.

Ongoing Opportunities

Please note: Many ongoing opportunities are onsite/in-person and may be suspended temporarily due to the pandemic.

Please keep an eye out for email updates, or check back here, for new opportunities as they become available. Thanks!

Membership Drives

Typically, our most available volunteer opportunity is answering phones for television or radio membership drives. During each membership drive, volunteers contribute hundreds of hours to help OPB meet its fundraising goals.

Radio membership drives occur in February, May, October, and December. Television membership drives occur in March, June, September, and December.

Prior to serving at a membership drive, volunteers need to complete training. Training sessions are scheduled a few weeks before each television membership drive. You’ll see notices about signups for training sessions and phone answering shifts in our email updates and on this page.

Administrative Projects

Periodically, an OPB staff member will ask for assistance with data entry, preparing a mailing, or a similar project. We’ll email the team of administrative project volunteers to see who is available to help.

These projects are almost exclusively during normal business hours at our headquarters in Portland, although remote opportunities are available from time to time.

If you are interested in joining the team of volunteers that works on one-time administrative projects, please email volunteer@opb.org.

Special Events

We’re looking for people who are friendly, comfortable in a variety of social situations, perform well in a stressful environment, and are flexible. Also, it’s also important that you think well on your feet and like talking to lots of different people.

The events team members will be our go-to folks for when we need help staffing things like OPB screenings, donor recognition events, and other community events. The times and locations of these events varies widely.

If you are interested in joining the team of volunteers that helps with special events, please email volunteer@opb.org.

A special message from OPB to you!

Thank you for sharing your time and talents to support OPB's mission: giving voice to the community, connecting Oregon and its neighbors, illuminating a wider world.
